Wandering Through
Wilds,
Wonders,
and Whispers.
Michaela Yanish was born in South Africa and raised in Canada, her creative voice shaped by a blend of cultural roots and an early impulse to make her own worlds. Refusing to stay within the lines of coloring books, she began painting and drawing as a way to explore imagined places and stories that felt just beyond reach.
Her work, alive with luminous color and dreamlike landscapes, carries quiet echoes of medieval history, religious iconography, and the lyricism of historical romance and fantasy. These influences thread subtly through her pieces, building an atmosphere meant to stir anemoia—a wistful longing for places one has never known but somehow remembers.
Beyond the studio, Michaela tends to a growing jungle of tropical plants, reads voraciously, and lives a full life with her dear husband, Matthew, and their little one to come.
As a member of the Edmonton Art Club, she continues to deepen her practice, weaving her inspirations into paintings that straddle the line between the familiar and the fantastical.
